News MediaAccording to the Tibetan-English news cite 11 people (8 Buddhist monks and 3 nuns) have committed self immolation since March in protest of the Chinese oppression and the exiled Dalai Lama. The most recent case was the 35 year old nun, Palden Chesto, who died little over a week ago on Thursday, November 3, 2011. The U.S. has demanded China cease violent policies and peacefully resolve its conflict in Tibet due to the recent increase in self immolation cases. The Chinese government exiled Dalai Lama for "inciting the violence," calling these demonstrations "immoral." The Chinese further proceeded by supplying more troops and subjecting the monks and nuns of the Kirti Monastery in Sichuan (site of the original immolation in March and 6 of 10 since then) to re-education programs.
